That's a lot of numbers and abbreviations so it must be good stuff.

It sells on amazon for £120-ish, so that's probably a fair price.

8800 GT is a solid choice, although a witsy-bitsy little bit outdated by now. Go for it, mang :salute:

Try to get hold of an 8800 gts 512.

*512* and NOT 320 or 640 because they suck.

The 512 is the fastest 8800 next to the ultra and in some cases even beats that.

And if you can get the xfx xxx edition too, you get a SWEET card for next to nothing.

But i dont think you will really be that pleased with anything below a 4870 if you want to play crysis.

Warhead, despite it's DRM and 'optimization' which makes it fucking gorgeous about a metre away from you and look like diakatana any futher, is a very cool game.

I just wish i could un-optimize it. I will ask the guys at crymod, or maybe just copy the old quality configs from vanilla crysis.

And they fucking changed the detail setting to a whole bunch of really gay names, like enthusiast, gamer, mainstream and swell guy. swell guy being the one that everyone at EA's pr department uses. I SWEAR i will hack it and change it all back to how it was.

NE WAY.

If i were you sikka i would save up for a little longer and wait for inte's GPU to come out and rape the market, thus making every good card near worthless. I watch the Pc market constantly and i am willing to bet that intel has something KILLER on the way. SO just stick it out for a while onger, and then when you get the upgrae the games will be cheaper too thus saving you oodles of munny.

I hate intel, but i am willing to bet the larrabee is going to rape everything out there.

Do get ATI. I'd have to catch up but I preferred them WAY more when I bought this rig. Need to start looking into stuff again since I need a new machine.

As for that card, don't. Get a 9800 for about the same if not less?

I dunno what prices on PC hardware are like over the pond, but why get an 8000 series when 9000 are cheap as dirt?
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!

Sometimes they give you double ram but it is cheaper, slower ram and the pipes connecting the chips are often the same number as with the "lesser" card, and slower as well.

Usually happens with things called "turbo" or "x" or "2000"/etc.

WAIT.

The longer you wait the better your computer will be.

Wait for larrabee to launch. When that hits the fan everything's price is going to fucking plummet.

If you go for the "wait for better shit to come" -route you'll end up waiting forever and never having a computer.

THat is true too, but right now is not the time to buy. I know it looks like it is, but larrabee is coming, you guys don't seem to get quite how significant this is.

Larrabee is the codename for a graphics processing unit (GPU) chip that Intel is developing separately from its current line of integrated graphics accelerators. The video card containing Larrabee is expected to compete with GeForce and Radeon products from NVIDIA and AMD/ATI respectively. Larrabee will also compete in the GPGPU and high-performance computing markets. Intel plans to have engineering samples of Larrabee ready by the end of 2008, with a video card hitting shelves in late 2009 or 2010.[1]
Cool stuff.

Since it's a new product line, expect at least 2 years of driver/compatibility issues. Game developers have to adapt as well.
