Fallout 1 and Mutant Invasions.

Now i've played FO1 and played for about 2 years game time. However, someone on the Something Awful forums is insisting that the Supermutants invade each town starting at day 88 with Necropolis. Then he says that they eventually take out the BoS and a traitor gives your vault location away or something. Is this the old 500 day limit shit or is he pulling this out of his ass?

The BoS never dies, they're always there as long as you haven't lost the game, in which case you can't go to see. The supermutants never invade any town, as I recall, save Necropolis. They kill some ghouls and sit tight. As I recall, no traitor ever gives you away. If time runs out, the vault is simply "found." If you buy the water caravans, that speeds up the "finding" time, I think, but gives you more time to find the water chip. I have to play that game again...

Using the water merchents gives you an extra 100 days to find the water chip, however it removes 100 days off your time limit to destroy the Master and the vats.

Did anyone ever make a patch to destroy this time limit?

Also, I've never had trouble beating the game within this time limit...I was actually unaware of it until I read a thread here a while back.

I wasn't aware until just now! And the "traitor" may be referring to your option to give up the vault and let yourself be dipped.

The only way that I lost the game due to the time limit was because it was the first time playing and I spent too much time mucking around trying to get better items. Now when I play, I can usually have either the master or the vats destroyed before the water chip limit is up. I especially like doing this because there is more time to do what you want if you just hold out on giving back the water chip.

Wasn't that a bit...bitter? I mean, suddenly losing because of a timelimit you didnt even know existed?

I know I would have been angry, at both myself and the game.

I guess I never played without the patch. It's one of the first things I do after I buy a game.

Well there you go on that. And yeah, I suppose that would be the nearest way of having a "traitor." Give up the vault to either the Lieutie Mutie (the Lou) or the Master himself.

Anyone ever exceed the time limit for finding the water chip? Was curious as to what happens then. Have to try it sometime.

An animation of a guy hitting his head on a computer panel and a text/voice (can't remember) saying: THE VAULT HAS D(R)IED OMG U SUCKZORS.

I heard a rumor that if you play for a long time in Fallout 2. The game WILL eventually End. But its a very long time (I heard the ending shows a cinematic Atomic Bomb Blowing up)

I got a message saying "You have Died", or something like that.
I had no damage, no radiation load, nothing.
This happened when I was playing AFTER winning the game.
Maybe a 100-year time limit.
I read something like that on the really old FO boards.
The really old ones. I think it was a dev who said something
like "It has to end sometime".
This post was about 7+ years ago.

It's a 14 year limit that makes the game end.

The BoS traitor and destroyed bunker were cut from the game. There are still some references to the traitor (if I'm not mistaken) in the dialogs, and you can see the map with the destroyed bunker from the demo maplist.

I thought everyone knew that by now...

That would have entirely ruined the game for me. The Brotherhood of Steel were my only friends in that game. The only beacon of hope in a war-torn wasteland. Burn the mutants around the base. Scour the planet with atomics. Let the Brotherhood have it all.

Is that where the 'destroyed bunker door' model comes from? In better words, it's the Brotherhood Door from Fallout 1, only it's warped and has sand built up against it.

Is there any way to complete that little plot twist, like with Mapper or something?
