Honestly though, that's a freaky critter, and it's the kind that a nice shotgun blast isn't going to fix, is it?

Perhaps it looks more like something out of BLADE 2 EH HOMBRE?

I like how the texture is improving from the last video. I'm also glad they're implementing something that looks more intresting than a dog or some rats.

The hands still look a bit gimpy, but at least they look a bit better from the previous first look.

Thats a mutated human, one of many species that will be in the game ... think this one is an entry to the "create a zone monster competition" they had running.

LOL Megatron, I like in your link how the guy is trying to fight the thing with a screw.

Also, is it just me or would it be better (more realistic, creepier) if the new mutant's eyes weren't glowing red? It just seems a bit cliched.

yeah, the red eyes are kindof a turnoff. although if you can spot them in the dark because of it, then im all for the idea. i cant wait to see the other winners from the monster ball. that mutant horse had me scared after i read the story that went a long with it (although spooky stalkers main page music may have had something to do with it).

bah it looks way too much like the vampires from blade 2.. the game world is looking slightly improved.. i hope they don't bog the game down with too many "MONSTERS" and instead focus on inter faction rivalry and competition with other STALKERs. think it'll make the game more interesting/challenging.

Nah, they chose a zombie with a gas-mask that could run on walls.

DRIPPING WITH ORIGINALITY!

Anyway, I'm not too bothered about the blade-2 thingy. I'd prefer a squid-face though, or mabye something with no mouth. The face isn't that bad compared to the huge hands though.

I think mutants will just be there for something to do, while stalkers will be there for quests and shit.

Monsters didnt win solely on looks, but was also judged on behaviour description and how they survive in the zone.
Havent read up on this particular one but monsters that looked cool and had no detailed description to back them up got canned right from the start.

This game will rock

That's all the winner did though? Just stand about and run. It was basically a zombie with a gun. I had a little look at some of the other runners-up and they either sucked or could have been pretty good but they couldn't be bothered implementing it.

The horse thing was good though.

This game might be good, though a majority of the fans want it too be counter-strike and the devs are assholes or something.

Dunno bout the devs being assholes, but after looking at the forums it seems that most of the posters are ... wtf, wasnt like that when i checked it 3 months ago.

The devs probably aren't assholes? But they just seem to do fan-stuff then leave it half-way through and are too busy repeating the same answers in FAQs instead of updating the site. It's not that bad though I guess, I'm just used to devs either not interacting with the fans or interacting with the fans. Not one or two answers every month or two then silence?

But the 'hardcore' fans are fucking dumb.

this isn't the first look at this 'handsome' fella, unless you mean sshots, since it appeared in the 'weather effects' trailer, along with the 'pseudo-molerat' (as I call it), storm, day-night cycle, clouds passing the sky, etc.
Compared to to the Blade-2-things this one's more... soft (jaws) and slim, and moves in quite a different fashion (see: the trailer)
BTW Blade 2 sucks ass BIG time (I can't stand stupid movies unless I'm drunk, which is rare)

As far as Stalker's 'monsters' go in genral, the christmas/new year game poster may be some indication of things to come here..

Actually the monsters in Stalker are the only thing I'm afraid they may screw up. (I mean, we don't want a Serious Sam, right?)

BTW for those interested, the book Stalker is partly based on featured living-dead of sorts, a hair-covered girl (unlike the movie), and some other 'anomalies' (Stalkers' kids) were mentioned as far as I remember. Nothing about other muties in the Zone, though. Just the 'zombies'.

I hope the monsters are cool. So far we've seen some rats, some dogs, a pig with an arseface, a hairy pig and this thing. I think it seems a bit boring mabye? Except for the rats, these just seem like lower forms of cannon-fodder. Mabye if each monster had a specific pattern and each monster was more individual (like hang around in packs, hide in dark places etc.)

I'll wait for the D-E-V-O.
