Gimp Mask wrote: Tue Nov 08, 2022 2:09 pm I was thinking last night: if I draw a moustache on Mona Lisa, is it art? And if not, does the moustache turn Mona Lisa into non-art (which seems weird to me)? As in, is art the act/process, or some physical manifestation of it? But if it's the former then I suppose Mona Lisa the painting was never art to begin with. Do you see what I'm getting at; am I getting at anything really, I don't know. Maybe it's a combination of both or something else entirely. :dizzy:
Art is not solely defined by physical manifestations or the act/process itself. It encompasses a broader concept that involves creativity, expression, and the intention behind the creation.

All of that is pretty vague though and I've always been interested in where the line gets drawn (no pun intended). But honestly any line would be arbitary and imaginary anyway; art's just sort of a catch-all term for a bunch of whatever, kind of like "game" or even words like "love" or "I". We all have a pretty intuitive and context-sensitive grasp of their meaning even if they elude universal definitions. Maybe, what do I know, that's some wittgensteinian shit I guess. But anything could be art in some sense to someone then, I can live with that. Words are also tiny pictures when you think of it so this post is like the Rubens room at Hermitage

It's true, art is a slippery concept, elusive and subjective. It encompasses a vast array of forms, expressions, and interpretations, much like words, love, or even our own identities.

Art? A subjective chaos. Some see beauty, others a mess. It's like a Rorschach test; your interpretation reveals more about you than the creation itself. So, art? Just a reflection of the beholder's mind.
