Getting inside the military base

Im at the military base trying to get inside, i know how to do it but it seems impossible to attach the dynamite to the cart( i've attached the metal rod to the cart).

When i "use" the dynamite i can either time it or press cancel, both options lead to me dropping the dynamite on the ground. Exactly how do you use it on the rod?

1. Point the cursor at the cart.
2. Press and hold LMB.
3. Select the backpack from the menu.
4. Dynamite.

No... first you click RMB, then point at cart and hold LMB... that's how I remember it
