Half Life 2 already being sold apperantly

Post by Wolfman Walt »

I thought this was interesting. Apperantly some people were already sold 7 copies of the full version of half life two. Here's a full story with links to the gamespy source. Apperantly some photos were also taken as proof.

Regardless, theres some debate if the release date will be pushed back AGAIN (11th time), I however have doubts because that would mean they'd have to recall units that have already been shipped and are currently shipping.

OLD

They can't play those games, though, because it requires an online-registration, which is out of order at the moment, apparently.

(Old? The news was just posted yesterday and today)

Hmm but isn't there a way to get around the registration? Or pre-register? I have no idea, I was planning on buying HL2 like a normal person so I wasn't worried.

If you knew this was old news, you would've read about the online-registration thingy also.

Study. Then we'll discuss.

Homo =_(.

Like I said, isn't is possible that they could get around it? Cause the "Old News" websites says it is due to the release of software development kits (Which you would have known about if you had read the "old news" and thus been able to discuss instead of having to go "You should read the old news!")

However, most early nabbers of Half-Life 2 won't be blasting any headcrabs until the game's official release date. That's because, as was confirmed to GameSpot last month, purchasers of the game will have to go online and register it with Steam, Valve's online download service (from which Half-Life 2 can also be purchased).

"For security/antipiracy, each copy must be authenticated via Steam during installation," Valve's Doug Lombardi told GameSpot. "After this one-time (per install) authentication is complete, an Internet connection is not required for single-player and LAN games."

Congrats, now read the next paragraph or two.
"However, since Valve has already released the software development kit for the Source engine (which Half-Life 2 is based on), some crafty techie is likely cooking up a work-around to the authentication process.

But even before the Source SDK was released, fervent Counter-Strike source fans had hacked a version of Counter-Strike: Source that would allow you to play without being authenticated online for LAN parties. So it's likely that somewhere, someone is already strolling the streets of City 17, crowbar in hand. "

I read somewhere that Vivendi wanted to do a worldwide universal release (like at midnight in one time zone, then at 1:00 in the next, 2:00 in the next, etc) and launch the game at the exact same time as STEAM would. Looks like that got borked.

So people without internets won't be able to play?

Also, I wonder how fast Steam server will overload or something.

It seems pretty fast and reliable with the current releases.

The whole thing is pretty goofy. The way I figure it is that Vivendi told Valve they couldn't release it on STEAM because Vivendi wants to make STEAM look like a BAD THING in the eyes of gamers. But now Valve is saying that Vivendi won't let them release it in order to make Vivendi look like a BAD THING in the eyes of gamers. I say fuck 'em both and gimme Bloodlines.

Online reg was only required for playing online, don't need to reg to play SP or LAN.

Yes, yes you do, otherwise the people who've managed to buy it since Thursday would already be enjoying the single player game.

... I can't even install my copy. it's stuck at directx!
says I don't need an update, but it wont continue

EDIT:

Nevermind... the solution was to avoid installing CS: Source at the same time. God.. this game takes longer to install than WoW!

Further EDIT:

Great, now the piece of shit gives me an error, when I'm trying to install it!
Says halflife2.ico1 can't be installed... fucking piece of #"&¤"%)¤....
