San Andreas: thoughts?

Post by Mr. Teatime »

It's the first GTA game I've got ont he PS2 rather than the PC. The framerate, graphics and loading times are annoying, as are the inaccurate controls.

The game appears to be truly massive, though, and makes me wonder what Rockstar can accomplish with a PS3.

Some of the details I'm not sure about though. Is there any point to be able to play basketball, for instance? Like getting a high score or something...

also there are some annoying bugs and quirks, but nothing gamestopping.

Finally, if you don't like rap and 'swell guy talk', you won't like this game. It's ALL about rap and saying 'what up, swell guy?'. I prefered the diversity of the previous games in that respect. But still, it's an impressive accomplishment.

I had no problem with the frame rate, but thats just me. Maybe I'm just used to the PS2.

It's a shame there's no 'retry last mission' thing, it means a LOT of backtracking.

Actually I've found there is a retry last mission thing.
As for the framerate, it's OK when there's not much going on, but when things heat up it drops below 10, often rendering the game unplayable to me. I've just left the game in disgust because of this.

The framerate does get a bit annoying. It's also sometimes hard to get your bearings with the hyperactive camera, but that might just be me.

Overall, it's like a much bigger, much dumpier Vice City. I'm only on the fourth (or so) mission, but I like it so far.

How does the atmosphere compare to the 80's Miami-Scarface feel in Vice City?

Well, Los Santos is basically all ghetto, so it's not exactly eye candy. San Fierro and Las Venturas look prettier. Overall, though, it's much less garish and colorful than Vice City.

i've had it since last friday.

framerate isnt an issue for me, the camera can be quirky, but overall its a really well detailed game.

Playing pool and betting on horses is pretty cool. having a biotch that you have to bring out for meals and dancing etc.. is a bit too realistic and painful.

Taking over territories is by far the best part of the game, the guns and skill levels for each gun is quite good.

Working out or being a fat fucker with no stamina is a good emphasis to have imho.

the cars and bikes and bicycles physics are fairly realistic.

commanding a gang of 'niggas' is a good touch

prostitutes dont take as much money anymore

Stealth mode is fun, and stealth killing with the knife is hilarious, As is killing crack dealers and taking their money.

The random conversations are quite funny, especially if your fat and have a pink afro.

All in all, its a good game, worth buying. plenty to do.

Is there any news of a PC release occurring within the year? GTA3 and Vice City have been some of the best modding experiences I've had and from the look of it San Andreas will be no different, not to mention I don’t have the money to buy a playstation.
