Google changes, I cant find shit.

Post by CloudNineGT »

At first I didn’t notice it, but it seems like google decided to sort web pages by least hits. Seriously, I search Top Ramen, and do I get the Maruchan (sp?) homepage? No. I get some godforsaken shithole that mentions ramen once. To sum my feelings up, WTF?!11?

I'm switching to alltheweb.

I think it's fucking awesome. I search "shit" and I get http://www.internetisshit.org/ I'll give a better opinion when I try to find something real though.

"Give an infinite number of monkeys typewriters and they'll produce the works of Shakespeare. Unfortunately, I feel like I'm reading all the books where they didn't."

Funny site, though hardly the shit international homepage you deserved.

Well, searching "porn" brings up PenisBot's Porn Links. The interweb goes on I suppose. So does porn.

Does anyone happen to know of alternative search engines to google?

I'd have to say it's at least slightly odd. This afternoon I was trying to find something on Planescape:Torment and the first thing that came up was a half-arsed dodgy post I'd made on some forum or other about 2 years ago.

Not what I'd call helpful.

Hm, Top Ramen works now. However, a search for Maximum PC turned up nothing but a few sites selling back issues and subscriptions. Again, no good.

So, lets get a list of search engines still worth using going, right now I'm using www.alltheweb.com they have some ads but in general I can still find what I'm looking for.

Well as with any search engine you really have to know the best ways to use it. Adding more keywords will narrow the search. If you want a specific phrase then enclose it in quotes. Check the Google Help Page to get yourself knowledgeable about how it works. Google and Yahoo are probably the two most advanced search engines, so it is doubtful you will get better searches anywhere else.

Yeah, dunno what to say. Planescape:Torment or Maximum PC searches give me the correct site as #1. As long as you spell correctly there should be no problem......

Well, maybe Google just doesn't like Cloud? *chuckle*

Google was probably on the fritz for a while. Maybe they were doing some server upgrades or something?

Must have been freaking out last night, cause yeah it's working fine now. Guess my sudden rage was unfounded.

JJ- I do know how to use a search engine, but thanks anyway.

And it's right that you don't, Top Ramen and Maruchan are two wholly different things.

Top Ramen < Maruchan by far

They did a study involving that, and they found that statement was wrong. The monkeys just pressed the same letter over and over (usually the letter S) and defecated onto the typewriters. The findings are in Harper's or some such magazine.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

That doesn’t disprove the statement, there is always an infinitesimal possibility that a monkey with a typewriter will bang out the words of Shakespeare. Cool study though, makes me want to go through school so I can test things like that.

Well, yeah, maybe a sentence or a word at at time and it would take something like kazillion billion years? I got your point, but it doesn't matter if there's a chance of something happening if that chance is something like 1 out of 999999999999999, because it will most likely *not* happen.
