Does anyone know the answer to this?

Dont talk dirty to me, I may like it... :)

Since this is the smarties thread here goes one for the brainiacs.

10 bags. Each bag has 10 pieces. All pieces are exactly the same and weight 10 units except for the pieces in one bag who weight 9. You have one electronic scale with a batterie that allows only one weighting and then it shuts off. How to find the bag with the lighter pieces?

Note: Confine yourself to the parameters. Reserve batteries, by hand estimates and other smartass tricks are not to be taken into account.

You could put the bags on the scale one at a time. Since you aren't taking any bags off, it's one weighing spread out over a longer time.

The difference between a nerd and a geek is the former's inability to translate his mental accumen into interpersonal communication... and the later in using his for social titillation.

Not being a mathematician by any length of the imagination, I can only marvel at the amount of debate and discussion generated by ATOGA's very uninflamatory query.

Therefore my only contribution to this subject would be not only inconcequential, but also completly off the subject.

Atoga is a Geek, not a Nerd  .
