Starting Equipment

Post by Temaperacl »

In case it is of use to anybody:

Everyone starts out with
Knife
10mm Pistol
10mm JHP (x2)
Stimpack (x4)
Flare (x2)

The following items can be started with if the indicated equation is equal or greater than 20. There's a couple of things I'm not sure about, but so far, it seems to work correctly..

Lockpicks:
(LOCKPICK-(PERCEPTION+AGILITY))/2 - 20+ GIFTED * 10
OR
STEAL-AGILITY-20+ GIFTED*10

Brass Knuckles:
UNARMED-(AGILITY+STRENGTH)/2 - 65 + GIFTED * 10

Stimpack (2x):
FIRSTAID-(PERCEPTION+INTELLIGENCE)/2-30 + GIFTED*10

FirstAidKit:
DOCTOR-(PERCEPTION+INTELLIGENCE)/2-15 + GIFTED*10

10mm JHP:
SMALLGUNS-AGILITY-35+GIFTED*10

Throwing Knife (2x):
THROWING-AGILITY-40+GIFTED*10

Tool:
REPAIR-INTELLIGENCE-20+GIFTED*10>=20

Water Flask (3x):
OUTDOORSMAN-(INTELLIGENCE+ENDURANCEC)/2-5+GIFTED*10>=20

Mentats (2x) & Buffout (2x):
SCIENCE-2*INTELLIGENCE-25-GIFTED*10>=20

If anyone finds a problem with this, please let me know..

You actually get more stuff based on your skill? Cool, I'd got no idea about that. Thanks for the tip...

Not sure about FO2, but this formula works pretty much the same in FO:T as well.

In Fallout 2, the only thing you start with is the spear..

Is it just me or is that spear getting more and more annoying every time you play the game?

I really should finish my C++-book so I could look through that source-code...

If you mean the scripts, the decompiler doesn't output C(++) code, so it wouldn't be all that useful to you for that..

I never use the FO2 spear...I almost always have unarmed combat skills over melee. And I knew about the lockpicks, but none of the other stuff, cool.

Gifted trait allow your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. increase accordingly, at the cost of starting with lower stat. If I remember correctly...

the body listens
What the flesh requires
keeps the heart imprisoned
What the spirit seeks the mind will follow
When the body speaks all else is hollow
