Obsidian Thinking About Kickstarter

Post by POOPERSCOOPER »

<strong>[ Company -> Update ]</strong>

<p>Our favorite RPG developer Obsidian is thinking about the possibilities of Kickstarter after the mega success of <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/667 ... nture">Tim Schafers miracle</a> of raising tons of money to fund their own game. I'm still amazed how they were able to raise that much money so fast and I don't know if Obsidian will be able to do that but you never know as <a href="http://www.bluesnews.com/s/129948/obsid ... >Bluesnews reports</a>:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>On a note related to the story above, a <a href="https://twitter.com/#%21/ChrisAvellone/ ... 650">tweet from Friday</a> by Obsidian's Chris Avellone asks about interest in a Kickstarter project, pointing to <a href="http://forums.obsidian.net/blog/1/entry ... er/">their blog</a> as where to register interest. Apparently this was quite high, as <a href="https://twitter.com/#%21/ChrisAvellone/ ... 8556544">a follow-up tweet</a> says they needed to reconfigure their blog to handle 1000 hits per second following the query (thanks <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/3978 ... Develop</a>). Word is: </em></p>
<blockquote style="padding-left: 30px;">
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>All of Double Fine&rsquo;s success from Kickstarter has been inspiring.

I GUESS PEOPLE LOVE THOSE CLASSIC ADVENTURE GAMES AFTER ALL.* </em> <em>

The idea of player-supported funding is... well, it&rsquo;s proof certain genres aren&rsquo;t dead and sequels may have more legs than they seem. And the idea of not having to argue that with a publisher is appealing. </em> <em>

Out of curiosity, if Obsidian did Kickstart a project, what would you want to see funded? (You can respond in comments or to @ChrisAvellone on Twitter, whichever you prefer.) </em> <em>

* I only use all caps for sarcasm and shouting. And for the Think Tank in Old World Blues for comedy value.</em></p>
</blockquote>
<p> </p>
<p>How many of you think we should donate to this cause? Feel free to post comments on Obsidians blog to give them your idea that they will ignore and instead keep all yoru money to pay over due wages :)</p><p>Spotted @ <a href="http://www.bluesnews.com">Blues News</a></p>

I've already thrown some money at Shafer so I'll keep an eye on this, too.

Fuck it, I'll bend over for Obsidian, they're the only ones who make half-way decent games these days. I came to this conclusion after playing Alpha Protocol not NV btw. They do need to start designing their own engines.

I'd definitely be down to donate. I don't think it'd get the money Schafer got, but Schafer is one of the better known developers.

It is not so much the design of an engine. In the highest order we have corruption. It stems from terror cells like not making a profit. Prosper, proper , and prophesying.

I might submit my kickstarter as well. i realize now the money isn't for me to spend but to prove the value of my project to publishers.

if one of you vow to do the shopping spree come goal or release, I will be fairer to DAC than dac has been to me or itself.

I will definitely donate to Obsidian's cause, especially with Tim Cain on the team. Still iffy about Fargo and Wasteland 2.

Come on Obsidian, start the fund raiser!
