I just got steam for the first time the other day only to get Portal for free. I'm considering uninstalling it though.

They expanded to Macs. So they wanted to celebrate it by sharing Portal for free.

If you get that error close it down in task manager and all should be good, also turning off auto update on games like tf2 can help.

have you turned off peerblock (if you use it) as it blocks steam ip's
and opened ports in your router if you have NAT enabled
or just go crazy hella drunk!

how the fuck do you open ports i looked at my router and it just has some plugs and a wire sticking out where are the ports there all open uhhhhh

Well, for example, my router can be accessed through 192.168.0.254. When I type it in the address bar of my browser I need to enter a username and a password (by default something like admin/1234 or so) to enter the router control panel. Check the website of the company that made your router. They usually have pretty good FAQs about this stuff.

http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm downladod this and test to see if the steam ports like 27015 are open. these are virtual ports btw not like ports in the guantanamo bay btw

if ports are blocked follow this guide, just choose your router and BAM instant guide
