Fallout 2: YK32 pulse weapon replica (Please Vote)

Got great hand-eye coordination? Here's the place to show it off. You can also upload your work (images, audio, and video) and view our fan art gallery (currently defunct, bug forum management to fix it).
This is also the forum for all of you blossoming Camus' to exercise your brain power by writing and posting fan fiction.

Fallout 2: YK32 pulse weapon replica (Please Vote)

Post by contec »

Hello there, I been lurking a while and decided to join the forum.
Here is a replica i did last year of the YK32 pulse weapon from fallout 2
Im mostly a startrek prop maker but i entered a contest on another forum and i decided to make a raygun. I thought the designs for fallout scifi guns were so great so i picked the Yk32 , It was a little hard to make out anything from the small gif picture that i found on the net but i think i did a good job.

In the making:
I vaccumformed 2 halfs of the body and used a old toy gun for the grip.
I have also added a big red LED in the nozzle. It looks cool in the dark.

Yeah, that's some really nice work you've done there. Maybe make the 'rubber' part yellow instead of red, but who cares. It's really dope!

I loved using this gun, it made me feel like I was playing the character Flash Gordon in the position of Mad Max.

Excellent job man. Kudos.

I suggest contec as admin or at least mod in the fan art and fan fiction forum. Sieg fucking Heil!

Edit:

Tell us more about the vacuum forming.

A little tutorial on vaccum forming:
First you need to make a mold of the thing you wanna vaccumform. It needs to be able to take the heat from the warm plastic that will be stretched over it. Wood, plaster, bondo or resin is good and easy to work with.
On the YK32 i made a frame of styrene plastic which i then covered with bondo, I sanded it to get it as smooth as i could, Thats because every little inperfection will show up on the vaccumformed piece.

I filled it with bondo and sanded.

My vaccum forming table is a modified version from this tutorial

http://www.studiocreations.com/howto/st ... index.html

I have a frame made of wood that i attach a sheet of plastic to.
After heating the plastic in my oven i took it out and attached it over my molds then i started my vacuum cleaner that sucked down the plastic over the mold.
Image

It sucks down really thight so it can be hard to get the mold out .
For the YK32 i had to vacuumform 2 identical pieces and then glue them together.

If anyone is wondering:
The other thing i am making in this picture is a Stun Grenade from Star trek:enterprise

Looks good. I would say make me one, but with all the lightweight materials I would break it in less than a day. I make stuff like (chain)maille, that stuff is a lot harder to break lol

GOOD F*CKING JOB NOOB!

Conny, you should attempt a T-51b helmet replica! If you made one I'd probably buy it.

I will pay you more than they would to not sell them one. I would buy one, too.
