The fact that people actually researched this makes me embarassed to be an American.
Something that has always pissed me off is the way slavery and racism is hung over our heads. The people who are racist will always be that way! It does not help that blacks form black organizations and segregate themselves! and Slavery didn't come to Africa with the white man. Africans made eachother slaves all the time.
The Irish were slaves
The Jews-Slaves
Mexicans-Slaves
Christians-Slaves
Chinese-Slaves
Scottish-Slaves
The Mayans had slaves
Polish-Slaves
German-Slaves

Newsflash: Slavery is not a black thing. The only difference is that Ice Cube would probably be living in poverty over in Somalia along with the entire G-Unit and Wu-tang Clan if they hadn't had slave ancestors.

By the way, did you guys hear that Al Sharpton's ancestors were slaves of Strom Thurman's ancestors?

In my cultural anthropology class some kid said that the Irish had it just as hard as the black slaves, being discriminated all the way up to the 1940s. I laughed, is anything true about what he said? Did Irish really have it as bad as blacks?

I dunno about as bad, but the Irish in America did have it pretty bad as they were very often descriminated, especially due to their habit of working as scabs. Haven't you ever seen signs that read "No dogs, blacks, or Irish"?

American was pretty WASPy when the Irish arrived, so they weren't exactly welcomed with open arms. They have this thing that some minorities don't have called a work ethic though.
