Biographies

Talk about music, movies, TV, books, other types of entertainment and what your vices are. Also, if you're addicted to the high you get off Aspirin, this is the place to talk about it.

Biographies

Salute, comrades

I decided to read some biographies for inspirational and entertainment purposes after reading an article about Arnold "Matrix" Schwarzenegger.

Any suggestions apart from "Mein Kampf" are welcome. ;)

The autobiographies of Carl Panzram and Bruce Campbell are definitely worth checking out. :che:

Read about Marlon Brando, he is fairly interesting. I did an informative speech on him this week and I went on for 10 minutes when it was supposed to be 4-6 :anger:

Like you could read through IMDB trivia on actors but most of the stuff they write they will change or contradict later. Of course you could always read a book about someone but they are usually about 500 pages and you can get all you need to know on the interweb right? I guess books would be more reliable though.

I highly recommend American Ceasar, Manchester's bio of MacArthur.

A Bright Shining Lie about John Paul Vann in 'Nam.

And Crazy Horse and Custer from Ambrose has lots of scalp-lifting highjinks.

william s. burroughs probably had the most interesting life, ever. so a biography of him might be worth reading, if it exists.

suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

There are several WSB biographies out there. I very much enjoyed David Henderson's bio of Jimi Hendrix when I was younger. And Oscar Zeta Acosta's "Autobiography of a Brown Buffalo".

The autobiographies of Richard P. Feynman are fascinating. Two volumes: Surely You're Joking and What Do You Care What Other People Think? Crammed full of awesome anecdotes about the awesomest man to ever do science.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

If you are interested in Robert Oppenheimer, I suggest reading Brotherhood of the Bomb. It includes Lawrence and Teller among others. Over all an interesting read.
