It's mentioned in the comics in just the same way as in the movie. Keep in mind, AAA has been around for a very long time.
In any case, Sin City actually is set in modern day. Think back to Violent Marv's story, where he steals the priest's BMW (might have been a Mercedes...). Marv comments that modern cars all look like electric razors. Most people in Sin City drive old cars because they look cool.

Even though I understand english I still keep reading the subtitles. Must be a subconscious thing..
I noticed the mercedes and ferrarri too, but I could ignore that.
The triple A reference didn't mean squat to me though, because I have no idea how long it's existed. They translated that with something we have, called Falck (Falcon), which I guess is the same kind of service.
But the closeup on her cell-phone was just killing.. I mean, you could actually see it was a Samsung.. fucking corporate whores...
