Fallout 2 Mapper 2 by Team X help.

Post by 1st Lt Reiser »

Hello to everyone im new to these forums and fairly new to the Fallout world (just over a year playing it) and am the Proud owner of FO1 & FO2
But i have a strong desire that most ppl who have completed Fallout 2 have to modify maps.
My problem is i dont understand how to set up the Mapper everytime i go to open a map it says in the logfile "Failed to init palette."

Thus i ask you the members of the Fallout community for help in configuring and seting up the mapper. Plz help me with where my .dat files should be located or where i should set the program up to look for things.

Thx for reading this and i hope for the best.

You need to specify to the mapper where to find the DAT files in the config. The config pannel is available by clicking one of the icons at the top...

Ok i kind of allready knew that so here is wat i have done.

I copied the files

Critters.dat
Master.dat
Worldmap.dat

into the mapper 2 folder and i told config the following

Fallout location: D:\Programfiles\Blackisle\Fallout2\

But im not sure exactly what it wants me to locate in this section does it want the location of the fallout2.exe or does it want the location of the dat files etc.....

Next the "local data location" what exactly does it mean? What do i look for when choosing the directory? Etc....

That depends where you extracted the DAT files, but for it to work without problems you want it into Fallout\DATA. You might need to extract the palette (color.pal in master.dat) and stick it into DATA (and make the data option point to the cirrect directoy) for it to work.

I extracted ALL the DAT's personally so if you NEED to extract any files I'm hardly aware of it...

After reading what you wrote it struck me that i misread it. When u said
"and make the data option point to the cirrect directoy" i thought you meant the config option "Local Data Location" and thus i was telling the program to look in the wrong spot. Thx again for all the help you have given me :P Now i just have to see how good i am with it
