It would take a lot more than Hollywood physics to trigger something like that.

The largest nuke ever detonated vaporized 352 feet of rock (memory?). I don't know if that was radius or diameter, but it doesn't seem like enough to trigger much of anything.

All they would have had to do is enhance the neutron reflector on the 50-megger.

I think the real problem is they didn't want to go through the hassle of burying it deep enough.
(So they wouldn't have fallout all over their cities.)

According to recently declassified information:

"Since 1945, over 2400 nuclear explosions have been detonated at hundreds of locations worldwide"

"The US, is responsible for about 1/2 of that"

If you ask me, the consequences of these nuclear tests, atmospheric and the tests where they launched into space specifically, did a number on our atmosphere. Hence the reason for global warming, we did something to allow more cosmic sun radiation to pass beyond the atmosphere.

We're all dead. (coz of gwabbowl-wabbowls [global warming] and the rotting corpses of Mr. Sunray)

Edit:

Wouldn't it be funny seing the USA getting pwnt by Earth? Commies? NO! Terrorists? NO! Aliens? Negative! It's gonna be like a huge infection and all the lava is gonna be like pus. And after it's out you simply clean it up with some desinfectant and wait.

2400 nukes?

And we're still here?

Not so bad after all.

The Earth can heal itself, just leave it alone for a while.

Like if we're dead.
