Cannot Get Fallout 2 To Run!!!!!

Post by Eruption »

I just installed Fallout 2 again after a system restore. When I insert the disc, the menu with the enclave soldier comes up, and when I click "play", it just gives me the "Running Fallout 2 Requires The CD!!" message. I did the Humongous Installation so I wouldn't have to worry about inserting the disc when I wanted to play.

Any help, guys? :anger:

Okay, dammit!

I mount it with Daemon Tools, and I still get the "Fallout 2 needs CD to run!" message!

What the fuck, dude?

You must patch the game with official patch. Than it will stop asking for cd.

Okay, I downloaded the official patch, and when I try to run it, I get this message;

"C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate this application."

I don't have any idea what Symantec has to do with installing a patch.

BTW, thanks for your help.

No. Am I supposed to?

I looked in the help sticky, but it's just really jumbled up, and was hard to find anything.

Well, open it with the notepad. Maybe there's a setting pointing to the CD's directory. Change it to your FO2 folder.

Okay, I opened the fallout2.cfg file with notepad, and this is what I got;

[sound]
music_path1=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data\sound\music\
music_path2=E:\data\sound\music\

[system]
cdlock=E:\cdlock.dat
critter_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\critter.dat
critter_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data
master_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\master.dat
master_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data
art_cache_size=192

I assume you're talking about the bold part? So I would change it to "C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2"?

I don't know. Try changing it. But make a backup before, it's just a wild guess really.

Try removing Data folder, patch000 and fallout2.exe file. Than install the patch and run the game with new fallout2.exe file that comes with the patch. If it still gives you the error and you happen to run the game on windows xp than try fidling with the compability by rightklicking the exe file and going to properties.
"Fallout 2 needs CD to run!"
Thats how the game was when it was released, you had to have the cd to run it. Than interplay released the patch wich made the game run without fallout2 cd. Kinda wierd.

Are you sure you used Fallout 2 v1.02d patch?
