Tactics. AGAIN

Okay.

I installed Tactics again today. And although it worked fine before it has now decided that I can't see anything.

Black Screen. No other problems (yet) I can hear everything perfect and it seems to be running smoothly when I ctrl-alt-delete it to close the bloody thing.

Is this a DirectX 9 incompatability or some graphics driver problem that didnt exist before?

I remember before I had to contact interplay tech services a couple of times with this game- fat chance of that happening with interplay in it's current "state".

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

AMD Athalon XO 2200
1.81 Ghz
512 MB RAM
GeForce FX 5600 (latest driver- forget what the number is)

Download the vs1.27 patch www.fot-community.tk

Then go get some version of gamespy arcade and play online with us. We could use more people, just whatever you do, for the love of God do not get into 10k. Its shit.

I'd love to, but its already got the patch installed, and with nothing but a black screen I think I may be put at a slight disadvantage.

Do some research on your video card with respect to nVidia's newest drivers.

I had a Gainward GF4 that ceased to work with a "newer" driver version. This was a recognized hardware issue with the card itself, and last I knew nVidia had 0 intentions to rectify the issue. The sollution: driver rollback.

When do you get the black screen? At start up, before/after the intro movies, starting a new game, choosing multiplayer?

If it's at start up, check the old threads (probably still in the FOT forum) there were two files in the miles folder if you moved or renamed them it got rid of the blackscreen, then once you'd got the game working you could restore them.

Already tried that, didnt work. I think its a driver thing, I have to just look thru my old disks to find an old driver or something. Pain in the ass.

Oh and its black for the whole thing, the movies play the audio then you here the menu music, so whatever it is its obviously graphics related.

You can try running some of these options in the command line.

- m no music
- s no sound
- 3 use direct x 3
- 7 use direct x 7
- g use windows gdi

i.e.

c:\program files\14 degrees east\fot\bos.exe -7

Hey thanx! That did it. Has to run through Direct X 3 for some reason but the main thing is it's playable!

Is there some othe place I can get this? That server says my IP is banned, and I've tried NMA and DAC but the files seem to no longer exist. Fileplanet wants money.

You can register with Fileplanet for free to download patches, demos, etc. It's the subscribing (no ads, points towards full games) that costs money.
