Yeah, the air is just fine here, really. It's been getting steadily cleaner for the past 30+ years, in fact. The only time you'd even be aware of it is in a city with a population in the millions, of which there are that many, and even then only on a hot summer day. If "what you hear" is f...

The value of money keep dropping, even if the stockmarket rises and some currency gain worth compared to the other, money keep getting less and less worth. They should really look further into their algorithms and examine them closely. That's actually deliberate. It's called inflation. All governmen...

Productive at what? Personally, when I look at most "productive" people, I think that they're mostly wasting their lives. What exactly is the stereotypical surburbanite dad, who churns away 60-80 hours a week, supervising people who make it their goal in life to sell people stuff they don'...

Your bet sounds a bit like Hegel's evolutionary optimism: "If we keep advancing, we can't go wrong." Yeah, I guess so. I think people overreacted a bit when the atomic bomb was invented. Yeah, we'd probably be better off without them, but look how much better technology has made our lives...

Huzzah, unfortunately this current society's needs outweigh the amount it produces. I think you're confusing need with want. We've got plenty, really, by any reasonable standard of measure. One solution isn't to produce more, it's to want less. I've been experimenting with the idea, and really it's...

Bartering is still capitalism, just less convenient. If a bushel of wheat is worth a gallon of milk, then both should be equal to the same amount of hard currency, say a dollar. Whether or not you use abstract currency to effectively make the same transaction (my wheat for your milk) is irrelevant. ...

I agree that there isn't a truly free market today and there probably will never be one. People who think we really have a free market should probably take a closer look at how cozy certain corporations and the government are, and think through the implications of all the piles of legislation that p...

Stem cells of clones. Only your stem cells will work. North Korea claims they can clone a human being and have a plan to have an area hospital hold a fetus clone of each person in case of severe bodily damage that would require you to dip into your neverending supply of fetus stem-cells. North Kore...

I'd be curious it it's really that simple. Most of your cells could probably be okay dividing happily forever as long as they didn't get cancerous, but I think your nerve cells would still naturally degenerate. So you'd probably look 30 for a few decades and then you'd go senile and still die. You j...

Anyhow, I doubt the system is that screwed up to plant evidence of murder or serious crimes on someone that was pulled over with a dime bag. What "system" plants evidence? "The system" is just people like us. Most of them good, a few not so good. Yeah, it sounds like a bad movie...

I don’t think anyone proposed mandatory organ donation for simple jail time. That isn’t fair in the least. I was thinking that after someone is past their time on death row and is going to be killed for sure, their organs could go to a government organization (I as...

It does seem like games are a bit stagnant. I kind of follow with saying all that's really changing is graphics are getting modestly better. I don't really think it's worth my money to upgrade to play the same game with more realistic water effects most of the time. I don't buy as many new games jus...

Ummm, no. What happens when one of our fine public officials who either has a heart condition or loves/gets money from someone with a heart condition finds out during an "unofficial" fishing expedition through medical records that you'd make the perfect donor? A little planted evidence her...

Yeah, but you know what happens then. All the other asteroids want to get in and do, Jupiter and Saturn get snotty and say the planet club isn't what it used to be and go on to make a new word for "real planets" and then Earth has to kiss their ass to get in because we're not a big old sca...

No. Planets are named after Roman gods, silly. 'Nuff said. Did the Inuits ever get cool enough to be able to crush most of the known world under their heel? Might as well call it Oprah or something.

Funny stuff often happens when you combine acids and bases under pressure. Just think about it for a while and you can probably come up with stuff on your own. Once you get over the initial funness of weed chemistry, though, it's true that fireworks are less hassle.

You're right about the homeless who're at that state because of drug / alcohol abuse and stuff like that. But some (I have no numbers) did not want to live like that and did nothing to deserve such fate, but are incapable of getting out of it. Who? I somehow doubt they were making quadraplegics cle...

And mother nature is not and i doubt she ever will be our bitch, mothers can be quite nasty. Real mothers also generally have a brain or at least a vestigial facsimile of one. Nature at heart is just an insanely complicated system to figure out. Like your car engine only a few orders of magnitude b...

Yeah, that's a good point. Man has been devising ways to defy the pointless restrictions of his environment ever since the first caveman figured out how to rub two sticks together to make a campfire. Maybe if the whole global warming thing makes things a bit too unpleasant for enough of us, there wi...
